Floor stripping and waxing is a procedure that helps in maintaining the newness and shine of a surface. Here is a guide on how to strip a surface and prepare it for waxing.
Step 1: Remove furniture
Remove all kinds of obstacles from the area that needs to be stripped and waxed. Barricade the entire surface by putting up caution floor signs. Once done, mop the floor to remove dirt, debris, and other objects.
Step 2: Get the stripping material ready
Read the instructions carefully so that you’re well acquainted with the stripping chemical. Then take the stripping solution and dispense it into a bucket. Most chemicals are utilized at full strength so you’ll have to read the label on the particular product to be absolutely sure. Also, wear the required safety clothing.
Step 3: Application
Divide the surface into blocks of two hundred to four hundred square foot and apply good amounts of chemical with the help of a mop. Let the solution sit for some minutes so that it loosens up the finish. However, never let the chemical dry.
Once done, take a commercial floor scrubbing machine and start cleaning the surface till the whole area is covered. Also, you will have to pick up the chemical immediately, as you will not want the stripping solution to dry on the surface.
Step 4: Wash and dry the surface
Use clean water mixed with a stripping neutralizer. Apply the solution to every area so that the surface is neutralized. It is only when the floor is at a neutral state that it can be polished once again.
Step 5: Clean
The last step is commercial construction cleanup. Wash all the equipments including mop, tanks, and mop buckets properly. This is because if the solution or material is allowed to sit inside the tanks, it will start to dry and solidify and damage the machinery.
All areas need to be absolutely dry before proceeding to the next step of putting on commercial wax coating. The experts recommend using a drying fan to ensure that the surface is completely dry.
